At Crovillas, you will find the best luxury villas for your Istria vacation in Pula, Porec, Rovnj, Umag, Labin, and Novigrad. We show you what attractions Rovinj has to offer. From your luxury villa in Rovinj, you can not only visit the attractions of this most beautiful city in Istria but also explore great excursion destinations in the entire region or on the island. And all this with the best weather, as the Mediterranean climate almost continuously offers pleasant temperatures.

Rovinj is located in the west of the island and is one of the most developed tourist areas in Croatia. In particular, you will find historical attractions in Rovinj, as the island has a long history. During your sightseeing tour, you can admire many interesting buildings, especially in the old town, and then enjoy delicious local specialties in one of the many cafés or restaurants.

Historical Sightseeing of Rovinj Attractions

Among the most popular Rovinj attractions is the Old Town with its narrow streets and tall, narrow houses. It is no coincidence that Rovinj was declared a cultural monument in 1963.

In addition, you should also check out the following interesting Rovinj attractions:

  • The baroque Church of St. Euphemia from 1725 with its valuable furnishings and Venetian-style bell tower is one of Rovinj's most visited attractions.
  • The Baptistery of the Holy Trinity. This small church dates back to the 13th century and is a beautiful example of the Romanesque style.
  • The Franciscan Monastery in Baroque style, inaugurated in 1750, features an interesting monastic library full of rare books and a museum where many sacred art objects can be admired.
  • Around the city, you can still see remnants of the seven city gates, of which two can still be admired in their original form today: The Gate of the Holy Cross, the city gate under the wall, and the city gate of St. Benedict. The so-called Balbi Arch on Marshal Tito Square replaces one of the original city gates and is also one of Rovinj's attractions.
  • Another interesting Rovinj attraction is the Homeland Museum, built in 1954, which contains an art collection and an extensive scientific library.
  • Interesting, even for young visitors, is the Aquarium of the Rudjer Boskovic Institute, which has existed since 1891 and showcases many plants and animals of Istria as well as the fascinating underwater world of the Adriatic.

Rovinj Attractions Outside the City

Among the most popular and well-known Rovinj attractions are parks and islands that can be explored on a day trip:

  • On a trip to the Lim Fjord / Limski Kanal, you can visit the large and small cave of St. Romuald. Spectacular historical animal bones and human tools of early humans were found here, and in the large cave, skeletons of Stone Age people were also discovered.
  • Just outside the city, you should definitely check out the Castle on the Island of St. Andrew, which originated from an old Benedictine abbey.
  • The coastal areas and the 22 Rovinj Islands offer a spectacular landscape and are also among Rovinj's attractions that can be visited on a day trip.
  • A special Rovinj attraction is the Zlatni Rt Nature Park, considered the first protected forest in Istria. Here you can admire many different types of trees (such as pines, cedars, or cypresses).
  • In addition to caves, islands, and forests, Rovinj also offers an interesting swamp area: In the Palud Reserve, bird lovers can discover many animals that nest here. There are also various fish and turtles.
  • Another type of park is the geological park Fantazija, about 3 km outside the city, which is considered an archaeological Rovinj attraction.
  • Also archaeologically interesting and another highlight among Rovinj's attractions is the ruined city of Dvigrad.

Rovinj Attractions: The Most Beautiful Beaches and Bays of Istria

During a vacation by the water, there are not only historical monuments and spectacular parks to visit but also the most beautiful beaches, which are also among Rovinj's attractions.

We recommend, for example, a visit to the following beaches:

  • Porton Biondi, north of the old town, here you will find a great pebble beach as well as a wide range of leisure activities with a beach bar and restaurant.
  • Monte, beach section Balutoa, below the Church of St. Euphemia. Here you have a great view, and nearby there are countless shops, restaurants, and bars.
  • Val de Lesso – Borik is one of the most popular family beaches about 2.5 km outside of Rovinj. It is also accessible for wheelchair users.

Great Views and Good Food

Not only the old historical buildings, the large parks, and the fine beaches are among Rovinj's attractions. Many tourists love to stroll along the picturesque waterfront promenade, shop in the many small boutiques, and then enjoy a specialty in one of the restaurants with a sea view. The fishing harbor is also one of Rovinj's attractions and a popular photo backdrop. Here you can rent a boat or set off on a day trip with an excursion boat.

An attraction in itself is the weekly market, whose colorful hustle and bustle captivates tourists daily. Here you can also discover some Rovinj attractions, namely the local delicacies such as freshly caught fish, vegetables, and fruits, as well as liqueur, olive oil, asparagus, mushrooms, and cheese. You can get a good regional wine after shopping in one of the wine bars near the market.

Delicious food and great drinks can be found all over the island in the beach bars, cocktail bars, or popular restaurants, where you can enjoy the sunset over the sea with a cool drink.
